•I was born in Minneapolis, MN USA on October 3, 1982.
•My last name is pronounced “katz.”
•I was a freelance performer, composer and teacher in the Twin Cities area from 2005 to 2011. During this time, I founded or co-founded The Pan-Metropolitan Trio, Stefan Kac Quartet, Ingo Bethke, and Consortium of Symphonic Transients, and was a member of or frequent guest with the Milo Fine Free Jazz Ensemble, Copper Street Brass Quintet, Brenda and the Holsum Family Fiscal Planner, and Pig’s Eye Jass Band, among many others. I was also on faculty at the West Bank School of Music in Minneapolis, where I taught all low brass instruments, a “Jazz History and Listening” class, and co-led an improvised music workshop.
•In September of 2011, I relocated to Valencia, CA to attend California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), receiving my Performer-Composer M.F.A. in May, 2013. I previously earned a B.M. in Tuba Performance from the University of Minnesota (2005).
